It’s probably a status symbol, and, since Peridot was confused about ‘appearance modifiers not welded to your body’, putting it on may be more involved than just slipping into it, thus Sailor Moon transformation(it may be the case that a low ranking gem like Peridot never saw how clothing is put on, but I was in a Sailor Moon mood).And on some level screw cannon cause I had a lot of frustrations about looking for stuff to wear to special occasions and they needed to go somewhere.
